10 Quick Questions with Lauren…

1. My earliest travel memories are of…

The long, long car trip to Peak Hill to visit my nan and cousins. Always made sure to pack plenty of food, music and books- there was no stopping until we got to Orange. It always seemed like the best meal ever when we stopped at MacDonalds after four hours in the car.

2. I can’t travel without…

My ipod and a good book. Never go on a long trip without those essentials, oh and some snacks (crispy m n m’s and coke is the best!!). My hair straightener is also something I couldn’t go anywhere without- need to be looking my best!

3. My best bargain was…

Anything that my mum or aunts have bought for me. Getting stuff for free is always great!!

4. I was genuinely scared…

When my friend and i got approached by some random guy when we were coming home from the soccer- he just wanted change but he totally could have had a knife or something.

5. I love travelling…

With friends. I do enjoy my own downtime, but i love the social aspect of travelling with other people. Club hopping, hanging at the beach, just wondering around the city is stuff that you can only really enjoy with other people.

6. I love listening to…

Pretty much anything except heavy/death metal. The stuff i listen to most is what’s on commercial radio, but i will reluctantly admit that i don’t mind a bit of country music or some more mellow classical stuff.

7. I know it’s rude, but I…

love listening to my ipod even when people are around. Long bus and car trips have made me totally dependent on my ipod as a way to relax and just block everything out so that i can get some sleep, and in some cases away from other people.

8. My favourite bar would be…

Any one that serves a good cocktail.

9. I met…

Not met, but saw Lleyton Hewitt when i was in Hamilton Island. I remember we were driving up this massive hill to get to the other side of the island and the views were gorgeous. I started to take some pictures on my phone, and i didn’t realise until he got closer that it was Lleyton Hewitt in the golf buggy behind us. He must have thought i was some crazy fan taking pictures of him because he started to slink down in his seat trying to avoid me. Woops!

10. If I had to pick anywhere, it would be…

South Africa. I love the accent and i love the cricket team. To be able to watch cricket in either South Africa or India would be a dream come true!!

- Paul Theroux

“The whole object of travel is not to set foot on foreign land; it is at last to set foot on one’s own country as a foreign land.”
