Snapshots of Japan

Japan is a country that leaves people a little bemuzed sometimes. It’s the contrasts that do it. Modern technology bound by ancient cultures. Lush countryside split through the middle by a bullet train bound for Osaka. Conservative family values existing alongside a youth becoming more vocal by the day.

All this contrast makes it the perfect country to explore, especially through the lens. 24 Hours In writer Andrew recently returned from a stint of solo travel throughout Japan, and brought back some photos to show off.

- Paul Theroux

“The whole object of travel is not to set foot on foreign land; it is at last to set foot on one’s own country as a foreign land.”
- G. K. Chesterton
